Susquehanna is furthering its sustainability efforts through Hawk Stuff, an on-campus “store” where students can pick up virtually anything a college student might need — for free. A newly launched second program offers free period care products.
Sustainability Starts With SU!
A sustainable and vibrant planet begins on campus by minimizing the environmental impacts of our operations and cultivating a resilient community through our curricular and co-curricular experiences.
Sustainability isn’t a buzz word or catch phrase here — it is our responsibility. From a solar array that provides 30% of the electricity consumed on campus to student-first learning opportunities like our Beekeeping Club, our commitment to sustainability is strong.
Students can not only work on sustainability projects but can propose their own and get funding through our Green Fund.

Sustainability Governance
Susquehanna University’s Sustainability Roadmap is a working document that outlines a forward-looking path to minimize our operational impacts, expand sustainability education and further embed a culture of sustainability within our campus community. This roadmap is a guide for all campus offices, departments and individuals to play a role in furthering our sustainability efforts.
The Sustainability Roadmap is a strategic guide to expand sustainability education, enhance and embed a culture of environmental sustainability. It outlines six goals:
- Academics: Integrate sustainability into curriculum and scholarly programs.
- Collaboration: Strengthen sustainability culture through relationship-building.
- Communication: Enhance knowledge-sharing and awareness of green initiatives.
- Operations: Reduce environmental footprint through sustainability and energy efficient initiatives.
- Planning: Strategically use university resources to foster sustainability.
- Student Engagement: Provide meaningful sustainability-focused opportunities for students.
Each goal includes objectives and strategies, focusing on social justice, global citizenship and sustainable economics. This roadmap guides the campus community in advancing sustainability efforts, from recycling programs to achieving overall environmental sustainability.
